I volunteer because I feel that it doesn't matter what school you go to, where you live or what your circumstances are I truly believe that each one of us has the potential to be the best they can be, become leaders and really make a positive difference in the world. These young students can use their voices to make the world better and I have had the amazing privilege of working with so many young people over the years that truly are remarkable. I'm more than positive that our students will grow up to be happy healthy adults who make a real positive difference in their communities. Another year is just ahead and I can't wait to see everyone and continue to have our team do the amazing work with these kids this year.
See you on the courts soon!
I must admit at the end of the season I am pretty tired but when I look back and reflect on the year I can't help but smile at the amazing laughter, fun and good times we have had on the courts with all the kids. Some have been coming for quite a few years and I am so pleased at their progress, and the amazing human beings they have become. I really am so proud of everything that our team has accomplished and I look so forward to another great year. I can't wait for spring!
The first habit of Stephen Covey's 7 habits of highly effective people is to be proactive. This year we will be incorporating those habits into our program as we feel that each person has a unique gift and with continued caring we can unleash those gifts. We want our children to be caring, compassionate human beings who respect diversity and who know how to do the right things when faced with difficult decisions. Being proactive is doing the right thing when no one is looking. Did I call the ball out when it was really in? Being responsible and taking initiative are also being proactive. The two pictures above bring me so much joy as I was proactive in bringing Hillcrest to life when it was abandoned, and last year we brought Tennis on the Streets to kids who didn't have access to the courts. The difference it has made to so many kids is amazing - but it takes some initiative, hard work and responsibility to get started. It is a very important habit that we look forward to sharing with the kids.
